Zim's site

Hey there, welcome to my personal website!

Currently working on a NDS homebrew project and getting good at C++.

About me

Hi there! My name is Zim and this is my website!

Mostly gamedev related projects on here but planning to expand my horizons by trying out game engine development and low level programming through making a homebrew DS game.

I graduated from Lancaster University in 2024 and I did Software Engineering.
I honestly don't know what I learnt there besides a deeper understanding of otaku culture by watching old anime every week at my anime club.

Currently, working in webdev in Malaysia.

I like game development, learning Japanese and anime media.

Planning on adding a blog section to the website (whenever I feel like it...)

Some additional sites where you can find my opinions on stuff:
(Ideally nobody should click on these.)

Hero Kid Misadventures

REPO - ITCH

Game - April 2025

A game made in a week for Indie Jam Student Game Jam 2025.
(Technically, not a student but unemployed graduates could join. (¯ . ¯;) )

A 2D action sidescroller where you play as Hero Kid and have to consume organ fruits to kill Dracula.

I tried to add a lot of juice into the combat loop with stuff like hitstop, hitstun, screenshake & hit effects.

I was the sole programmer & designer and worked with two other artists.

ZimEngine

REPO

Game Engine - ??? 20XX

Learning about OpenGL and engine development through the LearnOpenGL tutorials.

Was going to attempt a voxel engine but halfway, thought it wasn't really relevant to SkeleSkribe research.

Shifting focus to NDS homebrew development as gesture recognition and drawing symbols was something I wanted to explore as a core game mechanic.

SkeleSkribe DS

REPO

Game - ??? 20XX

A gesture-recognition OCR-based spellcasting mystery dungeon game.

Wanted to incorporate Japanese Kanji OCR gameplay and also mystery dungeon gameplay.

Designing the runes has been really hard because they have to make sense when combined - though coming up with one offs has been pretty easy.

Using the BlocksDS toolchain as they had a gesture recognition example but will probably look into using NFLib and NitroEngine as well so I can finish this faster.

Wondering why am I making a game of a game when the first one doesn't event exist yet?
I don't know I just really liked the idea.

Game - ??? 202X

I don't know when I'm gonna finish this.
